Rite Bite Healthy Lunches

Healthy lunchboxes play a crucial role in promoting the overall well-being and supporting the cognitive and physical development of our students. Packed with nutritious elements, a well-balanced lunchbox ensures that children receive the essential nutrients needed to enhance concentration in the classroom, and sustain energy levels throughout the school day.

A wholesome lunchbox typically includes a variety of food groups, offering a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Incorporating whole grains, such as whole wheat bread or brown rice, provides complex carbohydrates that release energy gradually, maintaining steady blood sugar levels and sustaining concentration throughout the day. Lean proteins, such as grilled chicken, tofu, or legumes, aid in muscle development and repair, while healthy fats from sources like avocados contribute to brain health.

As part of our 'Crunch' program, students at Modbury School eat a healthy snack each morning. Offering a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables ensures students are eating a range of vitamins and minerals. Snacking options like carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks, bananas or apple slices are fantastic options as they are packed with essential nutrients, and are rich in antioxidants – which help to build a strong immune system.

Engaging children in choosing their snacks or creating colourful and appealing lunch boxes can make healthy eating an enjoyable and educational experience, and can encourage fussy eaters to attempt new foods.

Proper hydration is essential for cognitive function, digestion, and overall well-being. Students at Modbury are expected to bring a drink bottle each day which is filled with water. Students have access to drink fountains throughout the day if they need to refill their bottles.

The Department of Education promotes the use of The Right Bite Food and Drink Supply Standards, which categorizes foods in a traffic light system. We encourage you to have a look at the traffic light system and share this with your child. You may like to refer to this when packing school lunches to help our students achieve their full potential.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday 6 February 2024 is Safer Internet Day, a global initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues.

We use the internet in almost every aspect of our lives, so it’s important for everyone to know about online safety. Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to promote online safety education and the benefits of being safe online.

We're encouraging you to take three simple actions when approaching online safety: Connect. Reflect. Protect.

Connect safely by keeping apps and devices secure and reviewing your privacy settings regularly.

Reflect on how your actions online may affect the safety of others or yourself.

Protect yourself and others by visiting eSafety.gov.au to find out how to stay safe online and report online abuse.
