Louis "I love going outside and playing games with the big boys. I like to play soccer. I meet my older brother Iggy at the snail. His friends Ashy and Bauti play with me too. I like to run around and play on the monkey bars and playing with the dinosaurs."
Harriet (Hatty) : " I like to do arts and crafts, reading books and tidying up. I like helping and reading to people and like things to be tidy. Sometimes people put things like food on the floor without packing it up. I like to pick it up"
First day of Prep:
Grade 1
Hunter: "I brought my soccer ball to school. I like to play soccer with my friends at recess and lunch. I also enjoyed maths this week. We played 'Get out of my House', which I like because I have played it a few times."
Juliet: "We are trying to figure out what an ant problem is and how we can solve it. An ant problem is a problem that is really small and is easy to fix. A really big problem is an elephant problem. We are learning to solve problems so if a problem happens you know how to solve it."
Grade 2
George: "We played a new game in Japanese. It is like rock paper scissors, but you make a snake with people in your team. We did an activity where we made a maths brain. We drew and wrote the things that we can do in maths like 'learning something new'. Why do we try new things? Because when we try something new a synapse builds a bridge in our brain."
Grades 3 and 4
Jake and Lucas (4B) : "We are cutting out apps and putting them into categories: apps for school, apps for home (if our parent allow) and apps we are not old enough for yet. We are signing our ICT agreements because at school we can use a device for education purposes only. We are learning how we can use our devices in ways that are safe and appropriate. "
Grades 5 and 6
Archie (6C): " Japapese has been a highlight. It was nice to have a full Japanese lesson with Mr Willmot. We practised greeting the teacher. We also talked about why it is important to learn a language."
Lyla (6T): "Swimming has been eventful, fun and exciting because we will be learning new skills to help us if we are ever in a problem where we need to swim away. We are also improving our existing skills. I really enjoy jumping in at the deep end! We are encouraging each other in our groups when we are learning new swimming strokes."
You are invited to join us for the official launch of Spread the word: Bayside's Upstanders exhibition.
Spread the word is a collaborative project between renowned local artist Noni Drew and a network of five schools across Bayside who are part of The Upstanders community. Artist and educator Noni Drew led workshops with 100 grade five students who each created graphic slogans against bullying, culminating in a street exhibition across the Bayside municipality from until 18th March 2024. On display on in the Corporate Centre is a sampling of the artworks created by these talented students.
Now in its eleventh year, The Upstanders are invited to upskill their knowledge on social and emotional learning and exercise their creative talents in spreading positive messages throughout the community. This year, the students were challenged to take their message to the broader Bayside Community beyond their own schools by producing anti-bullying slogans that will become graphic footpath decals in each of the major shopping districts. Their works are aimed at inspiring the students, and our community, to speak up, find their voice, and support one another. The students were encouraged to develop important values such as kindness, integrity, respect and fairness and put them into practice.
When: Thursday 15 February 2024 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (UTC+11)
Where: Bayside City Council Corporate Centre - 76 Royal Avenue, Sandringham VIC 3191
