Year 7 News

Cam Bruce & Gareth Hose | Year 7 Coordinators

We would like to welcome Year 7 students and their families into the school. With Year 7’s and 12’s starting school the day prior to the rest of the student body, we made the most of the opportunity to settle students into the unfamiliar setting of secondary school. The busy first day involved a range of administration tasks combined with activities that encouraged students to mix with each other. A majority of students were supported to connect to the school network with their device. If your child has a device but is not able to use the internet at school, please encourage them to speak with their form group teacher or one of the coordinators so any issues can be resolved.

Beginning Year 7 is a big change for all students. We see some students thrive on the new challenges that secondary school presents, while others can become overwhelmed and uncertain about what lies ahead. If your child is finding the transition difficult, please let us know.

Students in Year 7 are managed by a supportive team of teachers. Your child’s form group teacher will be a key point of contact for both them, and also you.  Your child will spend the first ten minutes of every school day in a morning meeting which will enable them to develop a fantastic relationship with their teacher.

The Home group teachers for Year 7 classes are as follows:

7A – Heather Deayton

7B – Susan Mckenry

7C – Nellie Op De Coul

7D – Gareth Hose

7E – Cameron Bruce

7F – Rod Kirkwood

7G – Olivia Davis

Year 7 Coordinators for 2024 are Mr Cameron Bruce and Mr Gareth Hose. The Year 7 Leading Teacher is Mrs Susan McKenry.

This week students have been provided with a range of information in the form of key dates and notes that need to be returned. These are outlined below:

  • The Year 7 ‘Meet and Greet’ BBQ is on Wednesday 21st February. Invitations would have been sent home with your child this week. The BBQ will be held under the shade sails near the canteen at 6pm. All family members are invited to attend. This is a great way to meet your child’s teachers as well as the parents of some of the students they are befriending. Rod Kirkwood will also be running a SEQTA information session for any families interested in learning all about SEQTA’s functions. Please return your RSVP slip by the 14th February for catering purposes.
  • If your child is absent from school, please notify the school using the absence hotline on 53817200 or via the Skoolbag app. Alternatively you can SEQTA direct message your child’s form group teacher as well.
  • SEQTA - This is the name of the online portal our school uses to link students, parents and teachers to enable clear communication of student progress with their learning in all subjects. Families will receive a welcome letter (via email) with login instructions, next week. If you have not received this email, please check your “Junk” or spam mailbox, then contact the school for further assistance.

If you require further information about any of the above, please contact your child’s form group teacher or Year level coordinators in the Year 7 office on 53817107. We request that all parents report to the administration office when entering the school, and where possible please call ahead to make an appointment with the relevant staff member.

We are very excited to be the Year 7 Coordinators in 2024 and have already thoroughly enjoyed meeting the new students.  We are also looking forward to working closely with parents and guardians throughout the year and are more than happy to chat to you at any time if you ever have any concerns or issues.
