Out and About the School

McCarthy Chess Tournament

In a thrilling showcase of strategic brilliance, the McCarthy College Chess Tournament, held on Friday 1st December, witnessed the triumph of Sean Gander, together with his teammates, Jackson Kook and Brae Hinchcliffe. With an impressive record of five wins out of six games, Sean Gander placed third from a field of thirty-eight competitors, including representatives from Tamworth, Armidale, and Gunnedah.

The tournament offered a day of intense competition and camaraderie. Our St Xavier’s students had the opportunity to develop their decision-making under pressure and the importance of sportsmanship.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the coaches and organisers for their dedication to making the event a resounding success. The tournament not only celebrated individual and school achievements but also served as an inspiring platform for the next generation of chess enthusiasts.

Thank you to Cass Hinchcliffe for attending the day and writing such a comprehensive summary of the day.

Canteen Thanks

The canteen would like to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteers and helpers who have helped keep the canteen running this year. We appreciate you giving up your time to come in.

A special mention to two long-serving helpers who will be finishing up at St Xavier's, Emma Brown and Matthew Reeves.

The Year 6 students have also been a huge help in the canteen, so than you.

2024 Uniform

Over the last year the Schools Advisory Council has been researching the possibilities available in order to introduce more options for our students in regards to both summer and winter uniforms.

We have finalised our choices with Lowes. From January onwards the SXG uniform will only be available through Lowes. We expect online orders and instore purchases to be available from early to mid January, you will be notified via email and our Facebook page.

As with any uniform change there will be at least two years required to complete a full changeover. The 2024 Kindergarten will be wearing the new uniform when they start next year. Other grades will change when families decide new garments are needed.

Lowes offer a range of deals for parents, an online service and sale opportunities, please see the attached uniform list.
