Kalinda Wellbeing

At Kalinda Primary School, we are committed to nurturing not only the academic growth but also the emotional and physical wellbeing of our students and families. We firmly believe that fostering a supportive environment goes beyond reacting to situations; it involves proactively instilling qualities like resilience, responsibility, empathy, and care in our students, equipping them with essential tools for success not just in school but also in their future endeavours.

One of the cornerstones of our approach is the Kalinda Crews program. Designed to cultivate relationships among students and staff in an enjoyable and non-threatening setting, Kalinda Crews brings together students from all year levels in vertical groups, each led by a dedicated teacher and supported by Grade 6 student leaders. This initiative is driven by the recognition of the significance of students forming connections with a broader range of peers and teachers, enriching their school experience beyond their immediate classrooms.

Meeting once a fortnight, Kalinda Crews sessions on Wednesday afternoons (excluding assembly weeks) offer a platform for engaging in fun activities while embodying the values of the Play is the Way program: Treat Others As You Would Like to be Treated; Be Brave - Participate to Progress; Pursue your Personal Best No Matter Who You Work With; Have Reasons for the Things You Say and Do; and It Takes Great Strength to be Sensible.

Crews serve as a forum for discussing values, honing social skills, and developing leadership abilities, particularly among Grade 6 students who gradually take on leadership roles within the sessions. For our youngest learners, Foundation and Grade 1 students are accompanied by their Grade 5 and 6 buddies who are there to encourage and support them in these sessions.

The continuity of relationships is also emphasised in Kalinda Crews, with efforts made to maintain consistent teacher and peer groupings across the primary school years whenever possible. This ensures that students not only have familiar faces around them but also benefit from enduring connections that span their educational journey.

In essence, Kalinda Crews epitomise our commitment to holistic education, where the cultivation of positive relationships, values, and social-emotional skills is as integral as academic achievement. By investing in programs like Kalinda Crews, we empower our students to thrive not just within the school gates but throughout their lives beyond.
