Principal's report
Mr Shaun McClare
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.
We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.
Many students have written their own versions of an Acknowledgement of Country. In each issue of the newsletter, I plan to share one of these. In this newsletter, we have one that was written by Sophie in Year 4.
At Kalinda we strive to follow our school values in everything we do at school, both in the classroom, outside in the yard, and with all that we do.
Our values are:
By following these values, we can be our best selves and enhance the well-being of those around us. This is not just for our students, but also for our staff, parents, and families. These values are easy to abide by when everything is going well, but the most important time to follow them is when we are facing something challenging, disappointing, or frustrating. Sticking to these values even when it is difficult to do so, builds our culture and is great modelling for all of our students.
Thank you to everyone for coming along to our Open Classrooms and Welcome BBQ last week. This is always a great opportunity to see your children's classrooms, meet their teachers, and socialise with other families.
A huge thank you to the P&F and all the volunteers who helped with the BBQ. I would also like to thank Theircare who funded all the sausages and bread.
I had the great pleasure of attending the Grip Leadership Conference with our School Captains and House Captains last week. This was a great opportunity for our student leaders to focus on building their own leadership capacity and think about the way they are able to support others throughout their time as leaders in 2024.
As a school, we are committed to protecting the safety of all children, and abiding by legislation that is in place to support their safety.
All volunteers who come and work at Kalinda must present a valid Working With Children card and sign our Child Safe Code of Conduct. This includes volunteering to help with Interschool sports, attending an excursion, helping in the Kitchen Garden program, or reading in the classroom.
Please follow this link to see our school policy on Working with Children Checks, and follow this link for information on getting a Working with Children card (free of cost for volunteers).

Please take a look at a new page added to this newsletter, 'Kalinda Wellbeing'. Mrs Drummond is our Wellbeing Leader and she will be sharing in the newsletter about some of the Wellbeing initiatives that are happening at the school. In this issue she has written about Kalinda Crews, a program that we are really proud of here at Kalinda.
School tours for 2025 Foundation enrolments will begin towards the end of this term. We will provide more information closer to that time. In the meantime, if you are interested in expressing your interest in enrolling at Kalinda or taking a tour, please contact us to leave your details with the office. We can be contacted at kalinda.ps@education.vic.gov.au or 03 9876 3289
