PYP

Essential Agreements

As part of the IB PYP all collaborative groups within the school are encouraged to have an ‘essential agreement’.

An essential agreement is an agreed set of norms and expectations, which are co-constructed by all stakeholders, which set the tone for collaboration and teamwork. It clearly states the benefits for following the essential agreement and the consequences for breaching it.

Classroom essential agreements are co-constructed collaboratively, providing students with voice, choice and ownership over their classroom environment. Norms and expectations are action based, written positively and are manageable and easy for students to understand and remember.

Once classroom essential agreements are agreed upon by all students, a copy is displayed in the classroom and shared with each student’s family via Compass. Specialist teachers also create an essential agreement for their programs which are also distributed to families via Compass.
