Principals Report

WELCOME BACK!
As we kick off the new academic year, it brings us great joy to welcome everyone back to school! After a well-deserved break, we are looking forward the year ahead learning, growing, and exploring together.
The students have settled in well to their new classes and routines with a smooth start to the school year. Our foundation students will be joining us next Monday to start their school life journey at Wales Street Primary School and we welcome all new parents to our community.
This year promises to be filled with exciting opportunities, challenges, and memorable experiences. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been hard at work preparing engaging lessons, enriching activities, and a safe, supportive environment. We are committed to fostering a love for learning, nurturing creativity, and empowering each student to reach their full potential.
Communication
For our new families, Compass is our main source of information and it is vital that you have access to Compass either through the phone app or via email on a computer or a device. Newsfeeds will be sent by teachers for class news, events and reminders at various times for their class families and general information will be sent via Compass when required. The newsletter will be emailed fortnightly on the 'odd week' starting this week- week 1.
Please make sure that you read the newsletter in a timely fashion, so you are aware of any important school and community events that are coming up. The Key Dates page is also useful so you are aware of the planned events for each term.
Parent information sessions
To start the year, we are having our Parent Information sessions in week 3.
This is a great opportunity to learn about our programs and the important ways you can support the class teachers with your child's education. Sessions for classes will be held together for the first 30 minutes, then staff will go to individual classrooms for an opportunity to see your child’s class.

Introducing our School Captains for 2024
Congratulations to our new School Captains for 2024.
Introducing: Sam, Maya, Lucas and Emily.
We wish them all the best as they embark on their new leadership role this year.
Compass pay
This year we have moved to Compasspay for all our school payments
Excursions, incursions, camps, swimming, interschool sport, graduation ceremony etc. are "pay as you go" and will be communicated to families throughout the year. You will be advised of the cost of each event as they are planned. Payment & permission for each event is to be made via the Compass portal under Events. This year we have changed the way we manage our excursion payments and consent.
We will no longer ask for an annual excursion payment fee and we will also no longer be using paper consent forms.
A key feature of this change is that parental permissions will be made available at the same time as payment through this portal. By going digital, we are able to have all our organisational needs for events in the one place online.
Please read through the Compass post that was sent out this week with a quick guide to using Compasspay for all payments.
SunSmart - BRING YOUR HAT TO SCHOOL
We are a registered Sunsmart school which mean students need to wear a sunsmart from the start of term 1 into Term 2 (1st May) and again towards the end of Term 3 (1st Sept) until the end of the year. Please ensure hats are named so we can help lost hats return to their owner.
Children without hats will be directed to the shaded deck area behind the hall or the deck beside the oval. Hats are required for Physical Education classes, Sport and excursions during the time periods above.
Please note that all Lost Property can now be found in the hall. The tub is checked a couple of times a week and lost property returned to the owner if named.
