Principal's Report
Tim Furphy, Principal
Already three weeks down, where has the time gone? Students are settling into their routines and working through the beginnings of a great year. A continued focus has been on collaboration, strengthening relationships and enjoying time with the whole school. Each day we sit together for 10 minutes recess eating time, we've also seen a range of year levels playing with each other during break times which has been marvellous. Students are finding their thing, whether that be downball, tag, sandpit, playground or simply keeping cool in the shade. I am loving the way each and every student is going about their recess and lunch times, in particular our leaders in looking out for our juniors.
We've had parent-teacher interviews this week, our idea is to continue to strengthen the partnership between home and school. Hopefully this has been a helpful conversation to have for both you and our students as we begin to set goals for the year ahead.
We hope everyone managed to get through the recent storm and power outage relatvely unscathed. What did the 4/5/6s do when the rain hit? I think this photo says it all. Despite the intiial power out "scare", mindfulness turned into frolicking in the rain for the last few minutes of the day.
We, like our students, have goals for our school. Our 2024 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) was presented to School Council last week and will be available on our website shortly. As a result of our school review last year and in consulation with our SEIL (Senior Education Improvement Leader) and review panel members, our schools goals have been set.
Our focuses/goals this year are centred on:
For those that attended assembly, I spoke about celebrating things our students are doing. Not just in school, but achievements made outside as well. If you know of great things happening in our community that our students are involved in, please let us know. I want everyone to know how awesome every single one of our students are! We also "sang" Happy Birthday in AUSLAN, following the lead of Mrs McAuley. It was so great to see parents joining in, we loved sharing it with you. Please keep it up!
Please keep an eye to communication channels as we will be sending information about our Easter Raffle. This will be drawn on the last day of this term at our last assembly. Watch this space!
A reminder that nomination forms are available from the office to self-nominate OR peer-nominate a member of School Council. If you wish to fill out a nomination, please do so prior to Monday 4th March, 2024. If you have any questions, please let us know.
NAPLAN begins in week 7 for years 3 & 5. Under the new format from the department of Education, the testing period has been brought forward in the year and we have a 'testing window'. Week 7 is the main week for the testing to be done with the following week available for catch up testing for students who have been absent.
We are to test in order as follows:
Writing, Reading, Conventions of grammar then Numeracy.
NAPLAN is only one form of assessment that we use and all schools regularly use a number of forms of assessment for their students. If you have any questions about NAPLAN please see your child's teacher, we're happy to help.
