"News from the Nest"

Today we're changing up our format! Ahead of the much anticipated SSA Basketball event, Mr M sat down with Ceres Point Guard Isaac T for a 1:1 interview!

Mr M - "Who has been impressing you so far at training camp, Isaac?"

Isaac - "Paddy when he goes into the paint and dominates on the boards and put backs. I also think Logan is one to watch because he's been hitting dimes through the smallest gaps"

Mr M - "How do you rate the teams chances at SSA?"

Isaac - "I think we have a pretty good chance this year. We almost made it last year when lots of us were in Grade 5. Now we're the big boys"

Mr M - "You've definitely impressed with your own shooting during the training camp. Can you tell us about what other teams you're currently in?"

Isaac - "I'm playing for the Sharks at the moment. I'm currently not playing any rep basketball due to an injury in the try outs.

Mr M - "Do you hope to get back into rep stuff?"Isaac - "Yep for sure"

Mr M - "Any last thoughts before the big tournament tomorrow?"

Isaac - "Let's go out with a bang and try to make the finals!"Mr M - "Good luck to you and both teams representing Ceres on Friday!"

Good luck to all students in the SSA Basketball event, especially our Lok Lok Eagles!

“Press from the Pouch”

What an incredible few weeks it has been for the Kanyul Kangaroos!Curious about what's been happening in the last two weeks? Let's kick things off by highlighting the fantastic Ceres Olympics celebrations that Kanyul students eagerly participated in at the beginning of the term. It was a wonderful experience, filled with learning, celebration and hybrid Potato Athletes. We've also seen the 2/3's travel to the MCG, an Olympic-themed Wellbeing Day, Bullying No Way Day and Tree Day. All these events have provided us with further insight into the outstanding attitude and resilience of our young Kangaroos!

Looking ahead, there's even more excitement on the horizon with a series of exciting events. The upcoming Book Week parade is sure to be a highlight, where our students will get to showcase their favourite characters in creative costumes celebrating "Reading is Magic". The F/1 and 5/6 students are eagerly anticipating their MCG Excursion, where they'll explore one of Australia's most iconic sporting venues. We also have a Cultural Studies incursion planned, offering a fantastic opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of diverse cultures. The 3/4 students will be visiting the Geelong Sports Museum, diving into the rich history of Australian sports. Finally, we'll be observing R U OK? Day on September 12th, a crucial moment to promote mental health and well-being within our school community.

Recently, our Kanyul Kangaroos have drawn inspiration from some amazing Olympic athletes. Saya Sakakibara, who has made headlines as a BMX sensation at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has shown incredible resilience and determination, bouncing back from past injuries to claim a well-deserved gold medal for Australia. Her journey is a testament to perseverance and courage. Another source of inspiration is Noemie Fox, who followed in her sister Jess Fox's footsteps by securing a gold medal in the canoe slalom. Noemie's skill and dedication on the water have made her a standout athlete in her own right, and her performance at the Olympics was nothing short of spectacular.

We also can't forget Keegan Palmer, who became a dual gold medallist in skateboarding at the 2024 Olympics. His creativity, courage, and incredible skill in the park event have made him a true inspiration for young athletes everywhere. Keegan's back-to-back victories highlight what is possible with passion and persistence.

In conversation with all of our Kanyul students, they've shared their love and enjoyment of the recent Paris games. Many have said how amazed and inspired they are by the athletes representing our country, whilst others have admired how skilled and supportive the athletes are of one another. The Olympic athletes display the same teamwork that Kanyul students embody every day!

Best of luck to all the Kanyul legends in their upcoming events and activities, both inside and outside of school. We're cheering you on!

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

A reminder that students can wear their house iron on patches on their school polos. These can be ironed onto students' polos, underneath the Ceres logo. It's great to see some students already wearing theirs!
