Ahoy! A New Playground is Coming Our Way!
Over the past month, our students, staff, School Cuncil, and Parents' Association (CHAPS) have been voting on our next playground project. The overwhelming vote went to the Adventure Plus wooden boat design.
The playground, which will be located next to the Prep Playground, will be installed over the summer break and ready for play on Day 1 next year!
Welcome Back!
As many of you know, our school's PE teacher, Mrs Laura Yorke, sought short-term leave earlier this year when she gained employment at SALT . Last week, she shared with me she is missing teaching PE and Sport to our children and would love to return to her tenured position. Without hesitation, I rolled out the welcome mat and am very much looking forward to having her back in our community as a teacher. Community members will see Laura as a relief teacher from next week before she resumes to PE and Sport in 2025.
I would like to thank and acknowledge the terrific job Jayne Beith is doing during Laura's leave. We hope to keep Jayne as a part of our teaching team next year.
Wastestoppers
This week I had some very enthusiastic Year 3 students meet with me to share their desires to complete a student-led project that has been inspired by their classroom learning. In their Sustainability unit, the 'Wastestoppers' team of Austyn, Lyla, Jack, Darcy, Evander Matilda, Shehzad, Isa and Harlow have been learning more about the impact humans have on the environment, notably, the Eastern Lowland Gorilla species. They passionately shared with me a Melbourne Zoo initiative that involves recycling old digital devices and how our school could lead the broader community in more sustainable practices.
I was extremely impressed by their information report and persuasive skills! I invite you all to attend assembly on Friday 31st August to hear more about how you can recycle your old devices and help the Eastern Lowland Gorilla species.
Prep Acknowledgment of Country Art Display
As those of you who frequent Prep assemblies know, the Prep students at our school have their own Acknowledgment of Country. If you haven't seen or heard it recited at assembly, you can view it as a visual arts display at the front office.
This piece of collaborative artwork is a great example of how our school's learning program extends to all areas of the school. This artwork, completed in Visual Arts with teacher Kristy Dixon, complements the learning complete in the classroom during the students' First Nations Unit.
