The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts
Prep: Students have started a unit learning about Drama. They have discussed that acting is ‘pretending’ and have tried out acting out some different animals focusing on their movement. They have also used their imaginations to act out and reveal what is in a magic box.
Year 1: Students have reviewed what acting and drama is. They have played a number of drama games including a round of mime actions.
Year 2: Students have reviewed what acting and drama is. They have played a number of drama games including a round of mime actions.
Grade 3/4: Students have considered the skills an actor needs to make them believable. They have played some drama games and acted out a mime scene with a partner focusing on non verbal communication.
Grade 5/6: Students have been finishing and rehearsing their 4-line verse and chorus for a school song about Willy Primary. Each group will share their song in the class and vote on which song they think will be best suited to become the Williamstown Primary School song.
Performances –
The Choir, Marimba Band and Rock Band
Congratulations to our 3 music groups who have recently done a great job at entertaining us in 2 separate performances: the final assembly last term and Bastille Day last week.
Each group will now work on learning and preparing some new songs to perform later in the year. We look forward to hearing from them again at the Art Show in October. (Day and times to be advised)
Warm Regards,
Faye Ferry & Lynne Georgiadis (Performing Arts)
La Celebration De Bastille Day At Willy
What a fantastic day we all had last Thursday! ‘Merci’ for the incredible effort that families put into supporting our students with wonderful dress ups on the day. It certainly contributed massively to the true French cultural immersion we were after.
There were hands-on French activities in the classrooms, ranging from French Presidential elections to banner/crown/giant stamp making, etc… Students were treated to a special French show by Chris Morant – an Australia’s Got Talent semi-finalist – as well as wonderful French delicacies at our French stalls. After asking many of our students this week, our Bastille Day disco was a big highlight when all the classes came together in the centre of the basketball court for a French dance to ‘Tout Essayer’ at the end of our parade time.
A huge shout out to:
‘Merci beaucoup’ to all the families who were able to pop in either for the parade or the afternoon French festival. It certainly made it extra special for our Willy Kids to have you all there.
Madame CRICRI 😊
Welcome back to the art room everyone!
We spent the first week back preparing for the amazing Bastille Celebrations. In the art room, we prepared for the celebrations by creating an assortment of blue, white and red paper craft creations. These are on display in the office foyer. Pop in to take a closer look!
In week 2, we got back to preparing pieces to display at our fabulous Art Show coming up early in Term 3. More details will be available about this soon. We can’t wait!
Grade Prep – The children are adding the last few details to their yachts and finishing up these pieces ready for display. They have used mark making, patterns and design to create their art work.
Grade 1 – This week we will begin creating some delicate watercolour plants and flowers. The children will be cutting these out to create detailed headdress crowns for our portraits.
Grade 2 – The children will be exploring sea stars and experimenting with various designs. These will be used in a future art piece.
Grade 3 – The children are finishing off their Pete Cromer inspired pieces. They are using painted collage paper to create their animals. Stay tuned for some sneak peeks.
Grade 4 – This week we are painting our toilet paper food creations. We have donuts, croissants and many other food items. These ‘pretend’ food creations have been fun to make and we have used interesting techniques to create them.
Grade 5/6 – We are continuing to work on our 3D papier mâché creations. The children are finishing the main structure of their piece and building up layers of newspaper and PVA glue ready to paint.
Warm Regards,
Marcia Evans
