Bonjour tout le monde

On Monday, 29 July 2024 our Leadership and Teaching Teams spent the day preparing for our VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority) review scheduled for Term 4 2024. The VRQA oversees and regulates educational institutions in Victoria, and its review process assesses how well these institutions meet the required standards and complies with various regulatory standards and requirements.

We dedicated the day to a comprehensive review of our governing policies, re-evaluating DOSCEL policies, and collaboratively affirming our adherence to essential standards at St Laurence O'Toole Primary School. Our focus areas included:

  • School Governance
  • Enrolment Standards
  • Curriculum and Student Learning Standards
  • Student Welfare Standards
  • Staff Employment Standards
  • Facilities and Infrastructure Standards

This day proved to be an extremely successful team-building exercise, fostering collaboration and shared commitment towards the betterment of our school. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone for their support and engagement in this critical professional development initiative.

Over the next few weeks, we will begin sharing policies with you for your consideration and understanding. We appreciate your attention to these updates as we work together to ensure the best environment for your child's education and safety.

Reporting Student Absences

To ensure that your child is properly accounted for each day, please remember to notify the school of any absences at the beginning of the school day. The preferred method is to use our PAM facility, where you can mark your child’s absence and provide the reason.  Alternatively, you can also call the office after 8:30 am to report your child’s absence and the reason.

This notification is not only a matter of school policy but also a legal requirement for child safety.  Please be aware that:

  • If we do not receive an absence notification through PAM or a call from you, you will receive a text message alert. You must respond to this text by calling the school with the necessary details.
  • If we cannot reach you by phone, we will contact all listed emergency contacts until we confirm the reason for your child’s absence.

These procedures help ensure that your child is accounted for and allows us to verify their safety and we appreciate your cooperation in using PAM or calling the office to report absences, as it helps us avoid the time-consuming follow-up processes.

I know many of the junior sports teams are heading into finals season and that finals season is a big deal for our junior sports teams. It's a time when all the hard work and dedication throughout the season come together. I hope the teams are feeling confident and ready to give it their all.  Good luck and what a great excuse to get out and about enjoy the winter sunshine.
