Performing Arts

At the beginning of Term 3, students who were previously timetabled for Spanish specialist sessions are now being introduced to their new timetabled Performing Arts session.

This is an exciting addition to Semester 2 and the Performing Arts staff are excited to explore Drama and Dance with a new group of students. Each grade began the term by sharing their ideas of how to demonstrate the Grayling PROUD values in the Performing Arts room and will continue to be rewarded with house points for their positive actions in our room.

In Foundation, students are using and developing their acting skills by using our facial expressions/body language while acting as different emotions. Students explored how the different emotions made us walk and talk in a different way. Additionally, students have started to explore known characters from their favourite movies, books or TV shows.

Grade 1 and 2’s began learning about characters that they already know from TV shows, movies or books. The students explored a book called ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ and discussed their favourite characters of the story. The students explored how stories can help our creativity in drama and used a variety of acting games to develop their storytelling skills.

Grade 3 and 4 students began learning about specific roles in drama, including the characters, directors, costume designers and script writers. The students learnt about each role and what they require in the creation of a drama. Students were encouraged to discuss and share what their favourite or preferred role would be and will have the opportunity to embody that role in the next few weeks.

In Grades 5 and 6, students learned about play building and ways to begin the creative process in drama. Students were encouraged to share their own creative ideas for our activities and work collaboratively with their peers. Over the next few weeks students will bring their creative ideas to life in their acting skills and create a small performance.
