Grade 5 - 6
Year 5 and 6 students have begun Term 3 with great enthusiasm and focus, immersing themselves in a variety of learning experiences across different subjects. Here’s a glimpse of what they have been up to:
Exploring Poetry in Reading
In our reading sessions, students have been exploring the world of poetry. They've been analysing different types of poems, unravelling their unique language features and structures. From understanding rhythm and rhyme to interpreting figurative language, students have been gaining deeper insights into how poets craft their messages. Alongside these explorations, students have also been analysing the parts of speech used, identifying the main ideas conveyed, and the author's purpose in each poem.
Creative Writing Adventures
In our recent writing sessions, students have been constructing their own poems. They have experimented with a range of figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and personification to create a vivid picture for the reader. Students have had the opportunity to explore various poetic forms, including haiku, cinquain, and free verse, to enhance their understanding of poetic structure and expression. Additionally, students have been reflecting on and writing poems about their special memories, capturing moments that hold personal significance.
Fraction Fun in Maths
Fractions have been the focus during mathematics sessions. Students have been exploring concepts like mixed and improper fractions, equivalent fractions, and adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions. Through open-ended tasks that require reasoning and problem-solving skills, they're building a strong foundation in this fundamental mathematical skill.
Looking Ahead: Exploring the Olympics
Looking forward, we are very excited to be focusing on the rich history of the Olympics and the inspiring stories of famous Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Students will explore different Olympic events, learning about the cultural significance and global impact of this historic sporting event.
