Grade 4

Year 4

Reading

Reading this week has seen the year 4’s looking at persuasive texts and how they what tools to look for when reading persuasive. We have been looking at point of view, where we chose 2 stories that were the same but told by different people. They also looked at different ways they get persuaded in text, like using emotive words, persuasive language, the rule of three and exaggeration. The students have all done well in reading and can now tell how to pick a persuasive text when they read it.

Writing

The Grade 4’s have started looking at persuasive writing. They started looking at a would you rather question and debating which one is the better option, coming up with reasons and justifying why they’re right. As classes they have begun writing about why they should not have to wear a uniform to school. Some students are big fans of wearing comfy clothes, especially during winter.

Maths

In maths we have been looking at Rounding and Estimating. Students have been investigating what the rules are for rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 100 and sometimes even to the 1000. We have all had a great time learning which numbers are nice ones and which ones are pushy numbers.
