Grade 1

Literacy

Year 1 students started the term with a revision week in Literacy. Over the week, we reviewed different digraphs and trigraphs including ‘igh’, ‘ew’, ‘ar’, ‘or’, ‘ore’, ‘ir’, ‘ur’ and ‘er’. In Week 2, we explored the digraphs ‘ou’ and ‘ow’, as well as the suffix ‘ed’. Students also spent time reviewing tricky words they have learnt this year.

This fortnight in Storybook, we have read the text ‘The Story About Ping’ and delved into the meaning of the words: pale, dash and swiftly. Students spent time summarising the story by identifying what happened in the beginning, middle and end. They completed a book review based on the text which will be their Writing learning task for Term 3.

Maths

In the past fortnight, students have continued revising their knowledge of numbers, recognising and locating them on number charts and number lines. The Year 1’s have also begun exploring concepts related to addition.

Integrated & Library

This term students will be focusing on Geography in integrated. Students have been identifying their special places at school and using a map to help locate it to others. In Library, we will be focusing on Indigenous authors and linking this into other areas such as Integrated.
