The school holidays are finally here! As your teen takes a well-earned break from school, it’s a perfect opportunity to support their wellbeing and help them recharge.
Here are some tips to encourage self-care and ensure your teen makes the most of this holiday season:
🌱 Encourage Downtime - Holidays are a chance for your teen to relax and recharge. Support them in taking time to rest, whether that’s sleeping in, enjoying quiet mornings, or engaging in hobbies they love.
😴 Promote a Healthy Sleep Routine - While it’s normal for teens to want to stay up late during the holidays, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule can help them feel rested and refreshed. Encourage 7–9 hours of sleep each night, and suggest winding down with calming activities like reading or listening to music before bed.
📱 Help Balance Screen Time - Screens are part of their world, but too much can lead to burnout. Encourage offline activities like playing sports, baking, journaling, or spending time outdoors. You might even join them in a screen-free activity to make it more fun!
🏃 Support Movement and Physical Activity - Help your teen stay active by suggesting activities they enjoy—whether it’s a family hike, dancing, or a game of basketball. Physical movement boosts energy and improves mood.
🧘 Check In With Them - Teens experience stress in different ways, and holidays can bring a mix of emotions. Create opportunities for open conversations about how they’re feeling and encourage activities like journaling or mindfulness to help them process their thoughts.
🎨 Give Permission to Relax - Teens often feel pressure to "stay productive," even during breaks. Reassure them that it’s okay to take time for themselves and enjoy guilt-free activities like painting, watching movies, or simply relaxing.
🌟 Be Their Support System - If your teen seems overwhelmed or withdrawn, let them know it’s okay to seek help—whether it’s from you, another trusted adult, or from the list below.

Wishing you and your family a joyful and restorative break! 🌼
