Student Learning

What's been happening in Indonesian
In Indonesian, students in Years 5 and 6 learned about shadow puppets during Term 2. They made their own shadow puppets and wrote shadow puppet plays. Over the last two weeks, they have performed these plays to their buddy classes.
This term, students are learning about different environments in Indonesia and the animals that live in them. Students in the Early Years classes are learning the names of the animals and describing them by colours, numbers and how they move; while students in Years 3 and 4 have been learning language to talk about many aspects of animals in preparation for writing information reports in Indonesian about animals. Year 5 and 6 students are beginning to explore some of the environmental issues that affect Indonesia.

Choir at Estia
On Thursday 8th August, the choir walked down to our local nursing home, Estia, and performed four songs for the residents there. The students sang beautifully and their performance was highly appreciated by the residents and staff alike. We are looking forward to singing at the local Resthaven next week and blessing the residents there.

Student Led Conferences
This week, our Year 5 and 6 students showcased their learning through Student Led Conferences. Each student gathered and prepared a range of learning to share with their parents, showcasing their growing independence and responsibility. These conferences are a powerful tool for students, allowing them to take charge of their learning by setting, evaluating, and communicating goals. They also provide a valuable opportunity for honest self-assessment, enabling students to recognise their achievements, pinpoint areas for improvement, and reflect on their growth. The students were confident and prepared – well done Year 5s and 6s! Thank you to all the parents who came and took the time to listen and encourage the students.

NAPLAN 2024
Our Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN results were released earlier this term, and the national and state data became available recently. Whilst recognising that NAPLAN is only a snapshot of student achievement, Pilgrim School’s results have been consistently high, historically. This year again, our results compared very favourable to the state and national averages, as you can see in the graphs below.
Oliphant Science Awards 2024
Congratulations to all of the students who entered into the Oliphant Science Awards this year! The projects continued to be of a very high standard across many areas of scientific inquiry and year levels, and are on display for a short time longer in the Science/Art Room. Special mention to Ella S for her Human Body Game that won a prize for her category, and carries her through to a special presentation ceremony later in the year.
Well done to everybody, and please see Mr Harris if you would like to know more about how to be involved next year.

Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge conclusion is fast approaching - early September. I would love to have more Reading Record Sheets from our students, so if you have lost your sheet, please see one of the wonderful Front Office ladies for a new one. Find a sunny spot to read and record the books you have read.
If you have any questions, please see your class teacher.
I look forward to receiving many more Reading Record Sheets in the upcoming weeks.
Happy reading!
