From the School Leadership Team

Eisugakkan

A huge thank you to our many homestay families for your generosity in hosting some visiting Year 6 students from Eisugakkan, our sister school in Japan last weekend. We were blessed with the opportunity for our students to interact and engage with the students from Eisugakkan, and continue to build up a very valuable cross cultural relationship. Our visitors from Eisugakkan enjoyed spending time in classrooms last Thursday, experiencing Australian schooling, and our overnight camp at AFL Max last Friday and Saturday was a lot of fun! It was again rewarding to see our students engaging well with our visitors. Thank you to Sensei Bishop for all of her work in organising another successful visit this year.

General Updates

It was a pleasure to attend the national Lutheran Principals Conference in Brisbane earlier this week. This event takes place every two years and provides a valuable opportunity for the principals of all 85 Lutheran schools from right across Australia to collaborate and undertake some valuable professional learning. We were able to hear an excellent range of guest speakers who presented on a range of topics including future trends in education, gratitude, project management and social media - just to name a few! I also gave a presentation to the conference on the AICD Company Director's Course, having been fortunate to receive a scholarship to complete the course last year.

We were also fortunate to be able to undertake some school tours to see different programmes and facilities in action.

Well done to our debaters - Nivedh, Sedani, Zoya and Molly who have represented our school magnificently in two debates over the past couple of weeks with our final debate coming up today. They have done an excellent job and we are very proud of them.

As you would be aware from previous newsletters, we are currently in the process of calling a new pastor to our community with Pastor Greg accepting a call to Queensland late last year. A call was recently extended to Pastor Mat von Stake, who unfortunately declined the call. Our call committee is currently reconvening to continue the process and we are prayerful of a pastor answering our call over the coming months.

OSHC Educator's Week

This week is OSHC educator's week and I would very much like to pay tribute ot Vicki Kahl, our GGOSH Director and her great team of staff. Vicki does a phenomenal job in co-ordinating our GGOSH and consistently providing a range of engaging and enjoysble activities. Her team work hard to care for the children well and to have strong relationships with the children and our school families. We are very thankful for all that our GGOSH team do!

Parenting on the same page:

As we begin this new term it is a great reminder that as co-educators with yourselves, we strive to work together to be on the same page. We encourage you to work with us to best support your children.

This also applies to parenting at home and for some of you depending on your situation may have great plans in place that help support the nurture of your children. As we are all different it can sometimes be difficult to always be on the same page whether it’s here at school or at home. Justin Coulson in his latest insight shares some ideas and reminds us on what we can do to best support our children by being on the same page.

I hope you can get some valuable insights from the article.
