Devotion
13Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, 14or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. Exodus 9:13
With the Ping Pong A Thon only a couple weeks away it is important that we reflect on why we do it. Our scripture from Exodus 9:13 states quite clearly what God thinks about slavery. He wanted the Israelites to be set free from Egypt or else there would be consequences. At this point the Israelites had been enslaved for over 400 years. This then leads onto the plagues, the parting of the Red Sea, and eventually heading to the promised land.
Unfortunately, today there are more slaves in the world than at any other point in history, making it something super important to fight for. There are people in today’s world, with a portion of them being kids, that have no say in what they do. Often, they are forced to work jobs (such as making bricks). They can’t:
- Play a sport
- Play video games
- Meet up with friends
- See family
- … And the list goes on…
We are lucky to have freedom in what we can do. We know what God thought about slavery, as we just read it in scripture; so we can use our freedom to fight for the world’s most vulnerable.
I look forward to partnering with you through the Ping Pong A Thon in shining God’s light into lives of people who are held captive, and setting them free.
Dear Lord, we thank you for the freedom that we have to live our lives and do what we want. We pray for you to set free those people in parts of the world who are being held captive. May you use us to shine your light into the world through the Ping Pong A Thon and in our daily lives. Amen
