3/4 News

It has been another fantastic fortnight in 3/4's which has seen us having lots of fun competing in the Potato Olympics. Students showed great creativity and resilience on the day.

Inquiry

We have continued to develop our understanding around many different disability's. 3/4's also became 'Fairness Inspectors' by completing an OH & S check list around our school. Students were required to consider what it would be like to move around our classrooms and yard in a wheelchair to ensure our school is not only safe but accessible for everyone.

Next week we have two guest speakers coming in to talk us about Dwarfism and Vision Impairment.

Next term we also hope to have the very talented Col Pearce visit us! Keep your eyes peeled for Col competing in the Paralympics from the 28th of August.

Writing

We have been continuing to research and write informative pieces of writing on our chosen Paralympian, our athletes sport, the history of the Paralympics, our chosen disability and disability definition.

This week we have also had a go at writing a Cinquain poem about a disability. A Cinquain Poem must follow the following structure:

Line 1: One-word topic

Line 2: Two adjectives that describe the topic

Line 3: Three interesting ‘-ing’ verbs that fit the topic

Line 4: Four-word phrase that captures feeling about the topic

Line 5: One-word describing or naming a specific thing in the topic

Here are some of our wonderful poems:

Maths

Did you know how far a kangaroo can jump? A Red Kangaroo can jump 13.5m. We had a turn to see how far we could each jump and practised measuring using cm and m's. Then we discussed why we use a decimal point and its importance.

We continued to look at the importance of the decimal point by looking at the Men's Olympic 100m sprint and how decimals are used in time. Here is the race!

We couldn't believe how close all the runners were. Check out their times!

Reading

This week 3/4's buckled up for an online adventure full of thrills and spills with Andy Griffiths’s newest series, Adventures Unlimited: The Land of Lost Things! Many of our students are excited for this book to launch!

About Adventures Unlimited: The Land of Lost Things

Remember when we went looking for my lost lucky rabbit's foot and we ended up getting lost ourselves in the Land of Lost Things? What? You don't remember? But that was one of our most exciting-and confusing-adventures ever!

Let me remind you how it all happened . . .

General Reminders

Kids Help Line - Please check Compass for our upcoming session. We require your permission on Compass for your child to attend.

Just a reminder that at our school we do not tolerate swearing. If a child is heard swearing they will be asked to phone home and explain the reason for the call.
