 Foundation/1

What a busy fortnight we have had! Potato Olympics on Monday, 100 Days of School on Wednesday and a whole lot of learning in the classrooms.

100 Days of School

It was fabulous to see so many students dress up for our 100 Days of School Celebration! We used an aging app to see how we might look when we turn 100.  As you'll see below, the photos are very funny 😀

Students participated in a range of fun activities throughout the day, which included making Fairy Bread and 100th Day biscuits.  They certainly were yummy!

Literacy:

The F/1 students are practising their fluency when reading, by doing some partner reading. The students are reading to a timer of 1 minute, swapping over and so on, to see if their fluency improves during the week. This is part of the Science of Reading research around fluency.

This past fortnight the students have also been learning about adjectives and verbs. They know that an adjective is a describing word and a verb is a doing word.  They had fun going on an 'Adjective Hunt' around the classroom.

Inquiry:

The F/1 students are learning about 'Friendship and Fairness' in Inquiry and the qualities it takes to be a good friend.  Last week, they made Sock Puppets in readiness for sole role-playing in the coming weeks.

Grade 2

We have had a great two weeks in Grade 2!

Aged Care:

Lots of fun during our Aged Care visits making Chinese lanterns and decorating feathers to make a peacock with the residents, see the next newsletter for the final product!

Writing:

In writing students have been busy researching and collecting facts on their favourite athlete from the Olympics.

Inquiry:

We continued our journey around the world, in the past two weeks we explored China and France!

Students learnt about the importance of lanterns, Chinese zodiac, tried some fried rice and showed great resilience using chopsticks to pick up various objects!

Whilst in France we learnt about mime, the Eiffel tower, tried croissants and created artwork like French Artist Henri Matisse.

Have a wonderful weekend!
