Twilight Sports

A huge thank you to all the parents, carers, and families who attended our Twilight Sports Event last week!  What a fantastic way to kick off the new school year!

It was wonderful to see so many of you joining in the fun, cheering on the students, and connecting with others in our vibrant school community.  The evening was filled with laughter, excitement, and a true sense of school spirit.  I already can’t wait to see who takes out next year’s parents races.  We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year!

Your support and participation make all the difference, and we are grateful for the time you took to be part of this special event.  It was a perfect reminder of how strong our school community is, and how much we can accomplish together.

Also, another huge thank you to our staff for their participation and efforts on the night, as well as the preparation that went in during the week prior. Thank you to Rob Tongue for his efforts in coordinating a great night.

We’re looking forward to more opportunities to come together throughout the year!

School Council

I invite all parents and carers to nominate themselves or others to join the Solway Primary School Council.  The School Council plays a vital role in shaping the future of our school community and supporting our students, teachers, and staff.  This is your opportunity to make a real difference by bringing fresh ideas, providing valuable feedback, and collaborating with fellow parents and school leaders.  Whether you have a passion for education, community involvement, or helping to create positive changes, we’d love to hear from you!

Why nominate?

  • Be a voice for our school community
  • Contribute to important school decisions
  • Work closely with teachers, staff, and other parents
  • Make a lasting impact on the school environment

Nominations are open now, and we encourage you to get involved. It's a fantastic way to help make Solway Primary an even better place for our children.

To submit a nomination or learn more about what the School Council does, please contact the office.

Getting to Know You Meetings

Next week, teachers will be available to meet with parents for our annual ‘Getting to Know You’ meetings. These are an excellent opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and give the teacher any relevant information for the coming year. Teachers will get to know your child, from your perspective, any additional information from you about any medical conditions and find out about your hopes for learning goals for the year.  These meetings will at the school. Instructions on how to make a booking was published on Compass on last week.

Policy Update

We have recently updated our Photographing, filming and recording students policy.

A copy of the policy can be found on the school website:  https://www.solwayps.vic.edu.au/page/133/Policies-and-Documents.  Shortly you will receive a photography consent notice, outlining how images and recordings of students will be used within the school community.  So that we have the most up to date information, I ask that you please return the consent form to the classroom teacher as soon as possible.

School Savings Bonus

It has been great to see so many families accessing their school savings bonus already this year.  If you are yet to access it and/or need more information, please visit https://www.vic.gov.au/receiving-school-saving-bonus.

Annual Implementation Plan

Each year, schools outline in the Annual Implementation Plan how they will implement the goals and key improvement strategies that will be the focus for improvement in the coming year.  Throughout 2025, our focus will be on developing a whole school instructional model that aligns with the Victorian teaching and Learning Model 2.0, building our teacher’s capabilities to implement the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and Embed Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) process.  As we move through the year, we will regularly communicate our progress towards these goals and celebrate the positive impact they are having on our students’ learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Farmer’s Pick

Many of our families have been benefitting from our participation in Feed our School Initiative. They have been supporting our school by purchasing sustainable fruit and vegetable boxes on a subscription basis. See the information further in the newsletter on how you can get involved.

Chess program

A reminder that the Grade 1-4 Chess program starts next week. Can you please ensure that you have returned the notice and money as soon as possible, so that our students can benefit from the wonderful program on offer.

Thank you for your support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
