Middle School Report
Ms Michelle Collins
Welcome back! I am delighted to continue in my role as Director of Learning for the Middle School for another year in 2025.
On behalf of all of the Middle School, we would like to warmly welcome all of our Year 9 students, parents and guardians who have transitioned from Junior School to Middle School this year. Moving from Junior School to Middle School is a significant milestone, and we understand that it comes with a mix of excitement and nerves. In Middle School, you'll experience a greater sense of independence, take on new responsibilities, and explore a broader range of subjects designed to challenge and inspire you. You will also meet new teachers and make new friends, all while building on the skills you've learned in Junior School. Remember, every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
We would also like to welcome back all of our Year 10 students, parents and guardians. Our Year 10 students have a lot to look forward to this year as they undertake Work Experience and prepare to select their Year 11 pathways. This year promises to be filled with new opportunities, growth, and memorable experiences. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
I would also like to warmly welcome Peter Tarwala and Luciano Murray to Year Level Coordination roles in the Middle School this year. Please don’t hesitate to contact them via email or phone, to help support your child’s education, wellbeing, or attendance.
*Peter to send his through to you directly
Hello everyone! My name is Luciano Murray, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the new Year 10 Coordinator at Westall Secondary College. I’ve been part of the Westall Family for four years and previously worked with our Junior School students. Moving into the Middle School space has been an exciting change, and the Year 10 cohort has been very welcoming.
I’m looking forward to supporting our students as they grow academically and personally throughout this important stage of their education. It’s an honour to work alongside such dedicated staff and families, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful parents and guardians for your support. We would also like to remind you of the important role that Compass plays in your child’s education. As a parent or guardian, you can advise the school of your child’s absences, communicate with their teachers, view their schedule and attendance history, provide consent for excursions and activities, and view their assessments and academic progress. Compass is available via web browser or downloadable iOS or Android apps. If you have trouble accessing Compass or you have forgotten your password, please contact the school and we can assist you.
Year 10 students have completed the first of their workshops designed to help them plan their Work Experience placement and they are busy looking for their potential employers. Work Experience will run from Monday 30th June until Friday 4th July which is the last week of Term 2. Students have been given guidance on where to look for work placements and how to approach potential employers.
We encourage you to talk with your child and discuss where they might like to experience a workplace for the week. Once students have chosen a workplace, they need to return their completed ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’ to secure their place. If you have any questions, please contact the Careers Coordinator.
As you may be aware, the Victorian Government provides a Camps, Sports, and Excursion Fund (CSEF) to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps, and sporting activities. For secondary students, this amount is $256. The cut-off date to apply for this funding in 2025 is July 4th.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.
For more information or to complete an application form, please speak to your child’s YLC or the front office.
