Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale Families,
We are now more than halfway through the term, and it has been wonderful to see so much growth and learning happening across the school. Our students have been engaged in a variety of exciting activities, working hard, and making great progress in their learning.
Parent Helpers at Our School
It has been wonderful to hear of so many families expressing interest in becoming parent helpers at HPS! We truly appreciate your willingness to support our students and teachers in creating a positive and enriching learning environment. There are many ways to volunteer as a parent helper, including assisting in the classroom, within the library, on excursion or attending camp. Please note that a current Working with Children Check is required, along with the completion of our school’s volunteer induction and training program. This session will be conducted onsite by Principal Carly Epskamp on Tuesday, 25th March. Further details will be posted on Compass in the coming weeks. Once the training is complete, parent helpers will officially begin in Term 2.
Inform and Empower eSafety Incursions
All year levels across the school have now completed their first online Inform and Empower eSafety incursion. This engaging digital wellbeing program uses live-streamed sessions to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to create safer and more positive online experiences. Inform and Empower is endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider, ensuring students receive high-quality and relevant online safety education.
This term, our Prep students have been learning about clever screen time choices (where and when), taking care of devices and sharing devices responsibly. Year 1 and 2 students have explored what the internet is, early warning signs and identifying trusted adults. Years 3 and 4 have focused on understanding the internet, rights and responsibilities, digital footprints and online identity. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students have been developing their understanding of online identity and digital footprints, keeping devices and accounts secure, rights and responsibilities and fostering positive online experiences.
"I liked doing the Kahoot and watching the actors show the different scenarios. I learnt what to do when a stranger is rude to you online." - Salwa 5D
"I enjoyed doing the Kahoot while learning about Cyber Safety. I learnt about dangers online and why the internet isn’t as safe as we think." - Maya 5D
"We learnt about cyber safety and did a quiz. I learnt that other people can pretend to be someone else on the internet and say mean things." - Aleina 5D
We encourage parents to use the fact sheets below to discuss the incursions and digital safety with their children. These conversations help reinforce important online safety messages and support students in making positive and informed choices in their digital lives.
Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the week ahea
