Buddy Readers Celebration
Our Buddy Reading Program is a special time every week where Years 6 to 8s mentor, support and share their love of books with Prep to Year 2s. These morning sessions build confidence, connection and reading skills in our young students.
Congratulations to all our Buddy Readers. We've loved watching your friendships blossom and your minds soar as you shared stories together.
To celebrate the end of the program, we hosted a pancake and sprinkles breakfast - a definite hit, as proven by all the smiling faces. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Years 7 to 9 Battle of the Books
A huge congratulations to our Years 7 to 9 students who represented the School in the annual Battle of the Books Competition against St Leonard’s College on Wednesday 24 June 2025. They tackled eight selected texts across four challenging rounds: visual, written, team conferring and buzzer round.
It was an intense battle, and lightning-fast reflexes on the buzzer proved crucial, ultimately making the difference between victory and defeat.
We're delighted to announce that our Year 9B team (Cameron Leighton, William Walsh, Aayan Gupta and Milan Bays) were victorious, with our Year 9A team (Josie Clyne, Tessa Glowinski, Georgia Thompson and Stephanie Verginis) placing second. It was an unforgettable win, made even sweeter after last year’s tie-breaker loss.
Well done to all our competitors for your knowledge, teamwork and enthusiasm. We're already planning to extend the competition to other schools and to widen the year levels involved to include Year 10s.
Holiday reading and kids’ literary events
This winter, our local libraries are brimming with stories and activities to keep young readers inspired over the school break. Glen Eira libraries are running the Holiday Mania series at Caulfield, Elsternwick, Carnegie and Bentleigh. Activities range from pirate storytelling, to shadow puppetry, from meet and greet animals, to creative writing sessions.
Let’s keep the love of reading alive these holidays and beyond. It's so pleasing to see students connecting with books at home, in libraries and as part of our supportive school community.
