Year 9 Fuse Cup - eSports competition

Will Stevens, Year 9

On Friday 20 June, eight Kilvington students competed in the Fuse Cup for Super Smash Bros. The matches were intense, and many of the games were incredibly close.

Although none of us made it through to the finals, it was a great day overall. A special shoutout to our top scorer, Ben Kanapathippillai, who came very close to qualifying for the semi-finals.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. I thought the atmosphere in the room was very positive, and we made some great connections with like-minded gamers from other schools. The day culminated in what was a pretty intense final at the end.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the Fuse Cup and our incredible eSports Club, which provides a great opportunity for students to enjoy gaming with friends, whether casually or competitively.

All in all, it was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and, hopefully, we make it to the finals next year!

Year 10 Peer Support Program

Sarah Bahramis, Commerce Teacher

A group of Year 10 Peer Support Leaders recently led a fun and meaningful workshop with the Year 4 students, focusing on the importance of friendship and how to build and maintain positive relationships.

The session was part of the Keeping Friends module from the Peer Support Program, which encourages young people to explore important social topics like friendships, bullying and self-image in a supportive environment.

The Year 10 leaders facilitated thoughtful discussions and interactive activities, helping the younger students reflect on different types of friendships, the value of kindness and how to play well and fairly with others.

Through the workshop, Year 4 students were supported in identifying the qualities of good friends, broadening their social groups, and understanding the benefits of being inclusive and welcoming.

The Peer Support Program empowers young people with lifelong social skills, a stronger sense of belonging and the confidence to make positive decisions in their interactions.

The Year 10 Peer Support Leaders will continue running workshops throughout the year, providing valuable opportunities to develop their leadership skills while fostering meaningful connections with their younger peers.

These ongoing sessions not only support the personal growth of the leaders, but also help create a stronger and more inclusive school community.

Year 12 Business Management excursion to Yakult

Shubhangi Sengupta, Year 12

As part of our Unit 3 Business Management course, we recently had the opportunity to visit the Yakult factory in Dandenong.

Since we have been learning about Operations Managment in class, the visit provided an insightful, real-world example of how the operations system works in a manufacturing business.

During the guided tour, we followed the journey of Yakult’s probiotic drinks from raw ingredients to finished product. It was amazing to see how clean, organised and efficient the factory was, and how much of their process was supported by advanced technology.

We learnt how Yakult prioritises hygiene and safety, with products tested multiple times before distribution. One key aspect that stood out to me was how the factory tries to minimise waste as much as possible by implementing various strategies, such as lean management.

Seeing these practices in action broadened and deepened our understanding of what we've been learning about in class, particularly how a business can manage their operations more efficiently in order to achieve success.

A big thank you to Mrs Bahramis for organising the excursion and to Ms Padgett for joining us on the day!

VCE Subject Selection Expo

While our current VCE students were tackling the GAT on 17 June, our Years 9 and 10 cohorts were looking to the future at Kilvington’s Subject Selection Expo.

After attending information sessions to explore the wide range of subjects on offer, students had the chance to chat one-on-one with our subject teachers and dive deeper into their passions and areas of interest.
