Term 1 Week 2
Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful break and are excited for the new school year. The library is ready to welcome back our eager readers, and we can’t wait to share lots of great reading adventures this term!
We’re excited to announce the start of the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2025! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves to read a set number of books and be recognised for their hard work and dedication. The challenge is open to all students, and those who complete it will earn medals as rewards!
Just a reminder how it works:
Students are required to read 12 books from the start of the school year until the end of week 7, term 3.
Students must record the titles and authors of the books they read on the relevant Student Reading Record for their year level.
A teacher, teacher librarian, public librarian, or parent/carer must sign each entry on the Student Reading Record to indicate that the student has read (or shared in the reading of) a book at an appropriate literacy level and that the book title and author are accurate.
Students in reception to year 6 will need to read 8 books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist at an appropriate literacy level. They may read 4 books of their own choice at a similar standard to titles featured on the
With the new year starting, it’s the perfect time to explore some great books! Our library is full of wonderful titles for you to borrow. Here’s a quick reminder of how borrowing works:
Reception - Can borrow 4 books
Years 1, 2, 3, 4 - Can borrow 8 books
Years 5 and 6 - Can borrow 10 books
Parents/Caregivers - Can borrow 10 books
Please remember to bring your library bag (Reception and Year 1/2), and return any overdue books to start borrowing again. Books can be kept for up to 2 weeks. If you’ve forgotten to return a book, don’t worry – just drop it in the returns box when you get the chance!
Students can return books by placing them in their classroom library box or directly into the green returns box in Tirkandi. Please note that only staff members are allowed to return books and use the returns computer. If a book is returned damaged, please place it in the Book Doctor box for repairs.
Library computer borrowing is available only for students in Years 3 to 6. The borrowing period runs from 8:40am to 8:50am. Computers can be borrowed by those who have either damaged their own computers or forgotten to bring them to school.
When you borrow a computer, we will record your name, class, and the computer's barcode. Each student must borrow a computer under their own name.
Please remember that all borrowed computers must be returned to the library by the end of the day. If a student forgets to return their computer three times, they will be unable to borrow for three days. Should this happen again, the borrowing restriction period will be extended.
Please note that these computers are secondhand, so they may be slower or have keys that are a bit tricky to use. If you notice any other damages, please inform your teachers, IT staff, or me directly.
The school library policy regarding overdue, lost, or damaged books is as follows:
If a library book is overdue or lost for 2 weeks or more, or if it is returned damaged, a fee of $15 will be charged. However, if the book is found or returned, you will be reimbursed the full amount.
Please note that students will not be able to borrow any additional books until the overdue book is returned or the payment is made. The fees collected are used to replace the lost or damaged book. Thank you for your understanding!
Our library is open at the following times for families to come in, borrow books, or just enjoy some quiet reading time:
Let’s make this year full of reading adventures. We can’t wait to see you in the library soon!
