A Busy and Creative Term1!
It's been an exciting and incredibly productive term in our Hands on Learning (HoL) space, with students working on a variety of engaging and meaningful projects. We’re thrilled to share what we've been up to!
Recycled Christmas Trees
The festive spirit is alive and well in HoL! Our students have channelled their creativity into building eye-catching Christmas trees using recycled fence palings. This project not only brought out their artistic flair but also highlighted the importance of sustainability and repurposing materials. The final pieces are a wonderful display of teamwork and innovation!
“We worked together to create wooden Christmas trees. We sawed the recycled fence palings and then screwed them to the stem of the tree. We decorated them with a wooden star, paint and mosaic tiles. These have been hung outside the Wellbeing office”.

Greenhouse for the Agricultural Robot
This term, our students have made great strides in the First Nations garden. They've worked hard to build a new greenhouse, in collaboration with the Year 11 VM students, which will house an agricultural robot. This exciting addition will help expand the school's sustainability and gardening program, providing students with hands-on experience in the intersection of technology and agriculture.
Woodburning the School Values
Our students have also been busy with a beautiful woodburning project, creating signs that reflect both our College Values and values that are important to the HoL team. These signs have been displayed in the HoL shed serving as a daily reminder of what we stand for: excellence, respect and responsibility, along with trust, honesty, kindness, empathy and fun!
Mooroolbark Community Gardens Visit
One of the four pillars of HoL is ‘a chance to give back’. At the end of November both HoL groups joined together to lend a helping hat at the Mooroolbark Community Gardens. The students ventured out to participate in seeding, planting and watering tasks. It was an enriching experience that not only supported our local community but also gave students a deeper understanding of sustainable gardening practices.
Shed Cladding and Insulation
Back in the HoL space, the students have been busy working on improving the shed. They have made great progress in cladding and insulating the shed, ensuring it will be a more comfortable and functional space for future projects. The teamwork and dedication shown in this project were outstanding! Cladding the shed will continue on into the start of the next school year so watch this space for the final reveal!
A Taste of Hands on Learning: Monte Cristo Sandwich Recipe
Students are always busy whipping up delicious meals for breakfast and lunch. One of our recent favourites has been the Monte Cristo sandwich – a savory and satisfying dish that’s become a hit among the students. We’re excited to share the recipe with you, so you can try making this tasty treat at home!

Special Shout Out!
We would like to thank former LHC student Casey Credlin, who has been completing her work placement for her Youth Work studies here at HoL through Term 4. Casey has been a great support to both the staff and the students and she will be missed by all. We wish her all the best.
