Year 9 Visual Communications Design Step up

Budding designers from our Sydenham campus explored the exciting world of design through a series of hands-on exercises using different weights of paper and card to generate design ideas for a park pavilion.

Our students experimented with the design element of form and applied a variety of construction methods to bring their design concepts to life. Special thanks to our wonderful Education Support staff member Linda Ganly for all your support!

Discovering Sicily: A Taste of Brioche con Gelato

As part of our Italian unit on exploring Italy, our students had the chance to dive into the rich culinary traditions of Sicily by tasting brioche con gelato, one of the island’s most beloved delicacies. This unique combination of a warm, fluffy brioche bun and gelato is a symbol of Sicily’s creative and indulgent food culture.

The tasting session began with a brief introduction to the origins of this treat. In Sicily, locals often enjoy brioche con gelato as a breakfast item during the hot summer months, offering a delightful contrast of textures and temperatures. Our students were surprised to learn that gelato is not just a dessert in Italy but can be enjoyed any time of the day.

Students eagerly selected their gelato flavours, ranging from classic cioccolato to fruity options like limone and fragola. This hands-on experience not only gave the students a taste of Sicily’s culture but also sparked curiosity about regional variations in Italian cuisine.

The activity tied perfectly with our ongoing lessons about Italian regions, food traditions, and vocabulary related to meals. It was a sweet way to bring our classroom learning to life while celebrating the flavours of Italy.
