Year 2 News

Exploring Our Local Community

We have had an exciting end to the year for our Year 2 students. As part of our current unit of inquiry, “How we organise ourselves” students embarked on a local walk to the concourse shops where we heard from staff at the bakery and fruit shop about their businesses and how they work to service our community. Students were treated to a behind the scenes tour of Bakers Delight where they were able to explore how all the products are made and the machinery used to make them. Students were surprised to hear staff from both organisations started work in the early hours of the morning to ensure fresh produce is available daily. Students were also treated to fresh bread and fruit from the owners of both shops.

We are very grateful to the owners of The Merchant fruit shop and Bakers Delight for giving up their time to share their knowledge and expertise with our students. We all enjoyed the experience, and the knowledge gained greatly contributed to students learning during this unit.

End-of-Year Concert

The year 2 students worked extremely hard in the lead up to our end of year concert held on November 28. The students all looked fabulous and did a wonderful job performing on the night.

We are extremely proud of all the students for their enthusiasm and effort on the night. We think they looked amazing and hope you enjoyed the evening.

Highlights of the Year

Reflecting on 2024, it has been a year full of rich learning experiences and memorable moments.

Some highlights include our Ciao Italy incursion, where students explored migration, different cultures and the traditions and celebrations they bring with them, and the Terrific Toys incursion, where we investigated forces through hands-on experiments.

Our excursion to the museum and IMAX was another standout.  Students gained valuable insight into the world of mini beasts including their habitats and lifecycles and the experience set the students up for success for their showcase held in term 3.

Throughout the year, we’ve also enjoyed collaborating with our pen pals from Beaumaris Primary School, exchanging letters on a regular basis. We enjoyed hosting our pen pals for a visit at BNPS as well as visiting Beaumaris Primary School in term 3.

We have a final year catch up with our pen pals scheduled for this week and look forward to celebrating the year with new friends.

The year 2 teachers are incredibly proud of all the students in year 2. We have had a wonderful year of learning and have enjoyed celebrating the students’ continued achievements throughout the year.

We are looking forward to a fun filled final couple of weeks and wish the students all the best for continued success as they move into year 3.
