Highlights of learning Japanese in Term 4. 

Prep 

PYP programme of inquiry for prep was about “ocean”. Children enjoyed singing a Japanese fish song and can read and spell names of fish in Japanese! 

Year 1 

PYP programme of inquiry for year 1 was about “animals”. Children made puzzles of animals using Japanese characters and sang Japanese songs about animals! 

Year 2 

PYP programme of inquiry for year 2 was about “forces”. Children learned verbs such as “push” and “pull” in Japanese through a paper sumo activity and a Japanese machine dance! 

Year 3 

PYP programme of inquiry for year 3 was about “sports and Olympics”. Students can confidently speak and write words and sentences such as “I play basketball” in Japanese. They also learned how to introduce themselves in Japanese and practiced with our Japanese helper: Lily sensei. 

Year 4 

PYP programme of inquiry for year 4 was about “communication with Japanese primary school students”. Students wrote a greeting card and sent a video message to Nagase Minami Primary School. In the greeting card, they wrote their name, age, grade, likes and nationalities using Japanese characters.
