Grade 6

Students have begun learning about the Earth, Moon and Sun. 

In this fortnight’s science lessons, the Grade 6 students made a model to help them understand how the Earth’s tilt gives us our seasons and how our axis enables us to have day and night. 

Grade 5 

This fortnight students explored how particles move and transform from a solid state of matter into a liquid and all thanks to the power of heat! Marshmallows and chocolate particles move more freely when they have energy! 

This energy came from the heat in our science microwave. Check out Layla’s smore! 

As the particles loose energy, the marshmallow and chocolate begin to solidify. Our biscuit still stayed the same, showing not all matter can be transformed into a different state when heat is applied. 

Year 4 

Students explored how human activity can impact weather and climate by investigating energy efficiency. They designed and built energy efficient houses, then measured the temperature inside to test how effective their designs were.  

Through doing this, students applied their understanding of energy, made predictions, collected data and evaluated their results. They also further developed an understanding of how they can take care of the environment.  

Year 2 

Students explored the properties of water and investigated how different materials absorb water. They put their learning into practice by creating rice paper rolls, observing how the rice paper interacted with water and how its properties changed.

We are after: 

• yoghurt container (no lids needed).  
• Thin plastic shopping bags (fruit and vegetable style!) 

Please send them along to school cleaned. There will be a box outside the Science room Tuesday - Friday.
