Morning Routines Support Successful Learners
A positive school day begins long before students enter the classroom. Clear and consistent drop-off routines help children transition smoothly from home to school, setting them up for a successful day of learning.
Establishing positive morning routines is one of the best ways to support children to become confident and successful learners. When students know what to expect each morning, they arrive feeling calm, confident, and ready to learn. Children thrive on routine and predictability, and clear drop-off procedures help create a sense of security and independence. Knowing exactly where to go, who will meet them, and what is expected reduces uncertainty and anxiety, allowing students to focus their energy on learning and engaging in the classroom. Consistent routines also support a calm and orderly start to the day, while enabling staff to quickly identify and respond to anything that is out of the ordinary. Together, these routines help create a safe, positive environment where every child can thrive.
Consistent drop-off procedures also:
Promote punctuality, ensuring students do not miss valuable learning time.
Minimise disruptions to classrooms and teaching programs.
Encourage children to develop responsibility and independence.
Support positive relationships between families, students, and staff.
Create a calm and orderly start to the school day.
By working together to maintain consistent arrival procedures, families and staff can create an environment where every child is ready to learn, participate, and thrive.
Our playground is supervised with yard duty teachers beginning at 8.30am. Classroom doors open at 8.45am each morning. This gives students time to unpack their bags, greet their teacher, connect with their classmates and enjoy a short play before the bell. These simple routines help students settle into the school day and prepare them to be successful learners.
A clear and consistent goodbye routine is also an important part of a positive start to the day. At our school, students are encouraged to say goodbye to their parents with one kiss and one hug before entering the classroom. While it can be tempting to extend goodbyes, we have found that the longer hugs and kisses continue, the harder it can become for children to separate confidently. A quick, positive farewell helps children transition smoothly into the school environment and build their independence.
If your family needs support establishing any of these morning routines, please speak with your child's classroom teacher or reach out to a member of our leadership team. We are always happy to work with families to develop strategies that help children start their day feeling confident, settled and ready to learn.
Thank you for your partnership and support in helping us provide a safe, calm and positive start to each school day. By working together and maintaining consistent routines, we can ensure every child arrives at school feeling secure, independent and ready to thrive in their learning.
