The Commonwealth Games are a major international sporting event where athletes from 74 countries and territories that are part of the Commonwealth compete against each other. They are held every four years and feature some of the world's best athletes.

The Games are currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, and finish on 2nd August.

Australia is traditionally one of the strongest Commonwealth Games nations and is expected to compete for medals across swimming, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, and many other sports.

Here are some fun Commonwealth Games Maths activities you can do at home

1. Medal Tally Challenge

Create a simple medal table (real or fictional).

Example:

Students can:

• Calculate total medals.
• Find the difference between countries. 
• Order countries from highest to lowest.
• Create a bar graph.

2. Measure Like an Athlete

Students measure:

• Length of a jump
• Distance they can throw a ball
• Time for a short run

Compare family results: 

• Longest jump
• Fastest time
• Greatest throw

Questions:

• How much further did one person jump?

• What is the difference in times?

   

3. Design Your Own Mini Games

Students invent three events and create a scoring system.

Example:

• Beanbag Toss = 5 points
• Skipping = 1 point per jump
• Paper Plane Flight = distance score

Students calculate totals and determine winners.
