In Term 3, some of our students have begun the term by embracing the opportunity to develop their skills in Debating. Debating is a fun, exciting and challenging co-curricular activity. It encourages the students to research a topic, explore a position, sometimes adopting a perspective they may not naturally agree with, present an argument and develop skills to respectfully challenge the different point of view.
We had an enjoyable evening on Wednesday 29 July hosting our neighbours, St Bernard’s Botany, to debate on the topic: “Schools should prioritise teaching resilience skills as much as academic skills.”
Three St Aidan’s teams debated with two teams taking the Affirmative stance and one team taking the Negative stance. It was a very successful evening with two out of our three teams winning their debate. We were very proud of each of the teams.
We are looking forward to our next debate which will take place next Wednesday, 12 August at St Bernard’s, Botany.
Warm regards,
Fenna Di Maggio
