Wellbeing Report

In Wellbeing lessons
Our first two weeks in Wellbeing have been looking at stress, and the different types of stress we experience. Students learnt that stress can be caused by: something that is challenging, something that scares us, something that is new, when we have too much to do, when something doesn't feel right, and when plans change. They worked collaboratively to unpack these different causes and think of examples in groups. It was a great way for students to build empathy and look for similarities and differences between themselves and their peers.
This session was followed by a lesson on cheering up and calming down strategies. We developed a vast array of strategies students could use in the classroom and in the playground to help their bodies regulate when they experience stress. These included things such as: playing with a ball, thinking of something funny, jumping up and down, singing a song, getting a drink of water etc. I was impressed by our students' ability to decipher which strategies would work best for them, and which would not be as effective.
Year 5 Young Leaders
Our young leaders are preparing lunchtime clubs for students who are looking for something different to do during lunch or recess. These clubs include a soccer clinic at Warburton East, and an Art club or Games club at Millgrove. I look forward to supporting students run these clubs, for the benefit of their peers.
SWPBS
School-wide positive behaviour support is now underway in every classroom at Millwarra. Our students are working hard and being positively recognised for their efforts. Currently they have earnt 3 votes towards an ice cream day, and one towards crazy hair day. Once an option has 10 votes the whole school will receive that reward. Keep up the amazing efforts everyone.
