School News Update

Principal's Perspective
Dear Parents and Carers,
School Review
Monday was the commencement of our school review.
The day was a positive day of exploration, examining student, parent and teacher opinion data, student learning data, the previous school strategic plan goals and a number of short visits to classrooms across all year levels.
The panel worked through the various areas of the review to determine what areas of focus they would like to examine with focus groups on the second day.
On day two, the reviewer, Dept of Ed. Senior Education Improvement Leader (SEIL) and the two challenge partners will meet with focus groups representing students, parents and staff. To provide validity and reliability of the results the principal and school staff on the panel, and the school council president will not participate in these focus groups. This allows for integrity of the review process and the opportunity for honest conversations by the focus group participants.
The second day of the review will be entirely made up of focus group meetings. The full panel will not meet again until the third and final day of the review where we will be setting goals and targets for the next four years and creating the next School Strategic Plan.
House Swimming Carnival
The house swimming carnival took place on Thursday 5th February. Congratulations to all of the students who took part in the activities and did their very best. We wish those students who made it through to district swimming all the best for their efforts.
Thank you to our PE/Sports teacher Ravi Parhar for coordination and running of the day along with all of the organisation and preparation prior. Thank you also to all of the staff who assisted and attended. It was a fabulous demonstration of ASPS team and school spirit.
Uniform
A reminder that all students need to wear full ASPS school uniform each day at school.
This includes navy blue or white socks, ASPS hats (not caps) and jumpers.
Please ensure that your children do not wear other clothing items to school that are not part of the designated ASPS school uniform.
For further details, please refer to Appendix A of the ASPS Dress Code Policy.
Designated Outside Eating Areas
You may have recently noticed the improvement in the cleanliness of the school yard.
We now have designated eating areas in the quadrangle for students who are eating during play times.
If your children are eating snacks before or after school, please ensure that they are responsible for putting their rubbish in the appropriate bins that are dotted around the quadrangle area. There should be no rubbish in other areas.
Extended Family Holidays
The Department of Education & Training is very clear that children should attend school every day. Their advice is to keep family holidays to outside school term time:
https://www.vic.gov.au/attendance-and-missing-school
In keeping with the DET guidelines, any holidays planned for during school time must be discussed with your child’s school in advance.
Please email the school at auburn.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au prior to planning your holiday to request approval. Once this email has been received and discussed with the Leadership team and your child/children's teacher/s, you will receive a response to your request.
Thank you for your support with this process.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the ASPS Annual Picnic this afternoon!
Thank you,
Travis Paterson, Principal
