Yellow PLC Update

It has been a wonderful start to Term 1 as we welcome our new students and families to Yellow PLC. The students have been settling into their new classroom routines, getting to know their teachers and peers, and exploring their new learning environment. We are so proud of how positively everyone has begun the year!

Throughout the first few weeks, students have been participating in activities that support building relationships, understanding routines, and feeling safe and confident at school.

English

In English this term, we are focusing on building early communication and literacy skills through engaging and hands-on experiences.

Students are learning to recognise and respond to their names, engaging with and exploring our new class communities, participating in shared reading experiences, developing early letter and sound awareness, and communicating using visuals, key word signing, AAC, and verbal language. Alongside these skills, we are spending time getting to know our new class, building connections with peers, and learning about our School Values.

School Wide Positive Behaviour

This term, we are teaching and modelling our School Wide Positive Behaviour expectations. Students are learning what it means to show Respect by using kind hands and words, how to be a Learner through trying new activities and participating in tasks, and being safe at school by walking safely, staying with the group, and following adult instructions. We are using visual supports, role play, social stories, and positive reinforcement, to help support students understanding while practising these important skills each day.

Maths

In Maths, students are developing early numeracy skills through hands-on exploration and play-based learning.

We are working on: Responding to number names, recognising different representations of number (objects, visuals, fingers, numerals), responding to changing collections of objects (more, less, empty, full), and participating in counting songs and interactive number games. These activities support students in building foundational mathematical understanding in meaningful and engaging ways.

Familiarisation Around the School

As part of settling into Term 1, students have been exploring different areas around the school, learning where important spaces are located, and being introduced to the school bus and bus routines

This helps build independence, confidence, and a sense of belonging within our school community.

Upcoming Event

Assembly in the Gym, Friday 6th March, 2:40pm

We look forward to attending assembly together and practising safe and respectful behaviour in a larger group setting and sharing student success.
