Hello, from the Music room

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Grades 3-6

Each week in Music, the 3-6 grades begin their lesson by focusing on a particular musical element when listening to a piece of music.

This week, we listened to an interesting song by artist Dobby. When the song starts, it's easy to believe it's solely a classical piece of music, but that soon changes!

You can read more about Dobby and find a link to Dirrpi Yuin Patjulinya here:

Grades F-2

The F-2 grades have been learning to use Curwen hand signs as they sing. Hand signs give a physical placement for vocal pitches which helps with memory and singing on pitch.

The solfege symbols (do, re, mi etc.) were developed by Italian monk Guido D'Arrezo (990-1050) and the corresponding hand signs by Englishman John Spencer Curwen (1816-1880).

One or both hands can be used to sign the notes.

You might like to have a go at signing 'so' (sol) and 'mi' along with the video below!
