Be SunSmart

Wearing hats

The BNWPS house captains have been researching about why it is important to wear hats and we discover that about 2 in 3 people in Australia will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer. People who are most at risk have fair skin and hair, but anyone who has long periods of exposure to the Australian sun can develop skin cancer. The Sport Captains have really been worried that some people at our school might get skin cancer because they have not been wearing hats or sunscreen whenever they're outside. So please wear your hat.

The Golden Hat

The Golden Hat is an award that the Sports Captains are introducing at BNWPS. You win the award if you are the most sunsmart class, this means wearing a hat during the whole lesson and wearing sunscreen. The class that wins each week will get a bonus game of Dodgeball before assembly each week. The winners of The Golden Hat so far have been SM and LB. Congratulations!

Drinking Water

Here in Australia it gets very hot, so hot that people get dehydrated and thirsty. That's why we have a ‘Pause and Play’ bell in the middle of lunch so that everyone can get a drink. But we are still seeing some kids not getting a drink when the bell rings. So at home we want you, the parents, to encourage your child to bring a water bottle and always stay hydrated, outside and inside school.

Kind regards,

BNWPS House Captains
