Principal's Report

Thoughts from our Principal - Mr Geoff McManus

Thank you, everyone, for your generous donations of sweet prizes of chocolate eggs, rabbits, bunnies, bilbies, etc. for our Easter Hat Parade and Monster Raffle on Holy Thursday 28 March and thank you to all of the mums, dads and grandparents for your active attendance and participation in the parade! As communicated previously via COMPASS we raised over $1000 for Project Compassion which included $376 on the day of the Parade! A wonderful fun community event that once again reinforces the strong faith community that we have here at St Joseph's Glen Innes.

As we draw to a close for our first term of the year, I am proud to report that our teams of skilful helpful adults have worked relentlessly to ‘future-proof’ our talented children. As a high-calibre benchmarking tool for measuring age-appropriate reading levels, PM Benchmarks for all of our year levels indicate early success and growth in Literacy for our children. Listed below are the current percentages of children at or above the expected level for their age already in Term One! (nb. Kinder are not expected to be measured until Term Three). Well done to our teams and to our children who keep striving to improve themselves!

Year 1    33%           Year 2    21%           Year 3    72%

Year 4    62%           Year 5    59%           Year 6    80%

Our Attendance Assembly for Term One 2024 will be held in Week 2 of Term Two (Friday 10 May). Currently, there are over 30 children who are eligible for 100% Attendance Gold Certificates and Vouchers. As a school that promotes and encourages positive attendance to ensure growth in academic outcomes and positive well-being, being present at school every day sets our children up for success.

Please keep an eye out for the COMPASS notification and approval for children to attend the ANZAC Day Parade in Glen Innes. While ANZAC Day falls over the holiday break, we still strongly encourage children to attend the march and service coordinated by the local RSL club.

As our final newsletter for the term, I publicly acknowledge the active support of all of our families in supporting the hard work of our teams of skilful helpful adults in the classroom, on the sporting field and on the stage. Our partnership together is essential for your child’s growth and future success. Enjoy the holidays when we get to them (Friday 12 April) and travel safely.

The first day of Term Two is Monday 29 April from 9 am.

Until next time.

May God go with you.

Geoff McManus
