Personal Strengths

Children and young people need a vocabulary to help them recognise and understand strengths and positive qualities about themselves and others. As part of the Respectful Relationships program this term, students at TPS have participated in learning activities that provide opportunities to build strength-based vocabulary and use it when discussing personal, social and ethical challenges.

  • Foundations students have built strengths through cooperative games
  • Grade 1/2 students have been Strength Detectives
  • Grade 3/4 students have considered strengths we use everyday
  • Grade 5/6 students have considered strengths they admire.

The VIA Classification of Character Strengths and Virtues (Peterson & Seligman, 2004), is a classification of positive traits in human beings. You can discover your personal character strengths profile by taking the scientifically validated VIA Survey.

We all have a distinct constellation of character strengths that impact how we think, feel and behave. Knowing and using your character strengths can help children and adults to increase happiness and wellbeing, find meaning and purpose, boost relationships and accomplish goals.
