For Harmony Week, Years P-2 and 2/3S have been looking at a folk dance from Bolivia and Argentina called Carnivalito.

Dance: Carnivalito

Traditional instruments: Drum, flute and guitar.

Rhythm: ta ta ti-ti ta

Students have loved the dance which has two distinct sections and have begun playing the rhythm on drums, shakers and clap sticks.

1/2s will share their big dance at Assembly next Monday 25th March.

What some Year 1/2 students had to say after all students danced or played along to the Carnivalito dance:

“It was a combination of drums, shakers and clap sticks and all of them worked together to make big, big, loud music and I felt on top of the world when we did it.”

“I liked the clap stick because they were super fun.”

“I liked the shakers and how they did it well with their turn. And the other thing is that when we were dancing, I thought the drums were a bit too loud.”

“I liked the drums because they were loud, and I like loud instruments.”

“I think on the skipping part, when you’re on the shakers you do the medium fast because I was thinking if everyone does it at the speed that the music is already going it would sound better.”

“I liked how everyone played so well together and they were happy.”

“I think we could improve how we play the shakers.”
