A Message from David
Dear parents and carers,
We’re really excited about our upcoming community STEM event on Wednesday next week (27th) from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The activities of this event profile the learning that Years 3-6 students have been doing in STEM with Josh this year, as well as some engaging hands-on interactive activities suitable for any age. The activities predominantly focus on the engineering and coding aspects of STEM which have been the focus of learning this term.
Curriculum based events like this are important in bringing the community together for a shared learning experience and we hope to hold similar events, such as a Maths evening, in the future. Best wishes in advance for a successful evening and a special thanks to Josh and Rylee for their organisation of this event.
Activities include:
Sphero maze challenge | Code or drive a Sphero robot through a course |
Micro:bit coding | Explore projects and games coded by Year 3-6 students this term or create your own |
Pinewood Derby | Design, build and race your car against others. Aerodynamics, drag and friction will be tested in your designs. Note, cars are to be built at home and brought to the track |
Scratch coding | Explore the games and animations created by students in Years 3-6 |
Drones | Test your flight skills with our pre-recorded drones |
Catapult challenge | Catapults have been used since 400 BCE during the times of the Ancient Greeks.
|
Chain reaction machines | Using objects from around the room, can you make a chain reaction machine that includes at least three steps? Imagine marbles rolling down ramps, toppling dominoes, pendulums, levers and falling objects
|
Building | Use material to build a tower or a shelter |
Nature-based play | Potion making |
Mini-beasts under the microscope | Have a look through the microscopes to see if you can find some different minibeasts |
Fluffy to fabric: transformations | Transforming the structure of fibres |
More detailed information about activities and a map of where the activities are located will be provided on entry to the school.
