A Message from David

Dear parents and carers,

 

We’re really excited about our upcoming community STEM event on Wednesday next week (27th) from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The activities of this event profile the learning that Years 3-6 students have been doing in STEM with Josh this year, as well as some engaging hands-on interactive activities suitable for any age. The activities predominantly focus on the engineering and coding aspects of STEM which have been the focus of learning this term.

 

Curriculum based events like this are important in bringing the community together for a shared learning experience and we hope to hold similar events, such as a Maths evening, in the future.  Best wishes in advance for a successful evening and a special thanks to Josh and Rylee for their organisation of this event. 

Activities include:

Sphero maze challengeCode or drive a Sphero robot through a course
Micro:bit codingExplore projects and games coded by Year 3-6 students this term or create your own
Pinewood DerbyDesign, build and race your car against others. Aerodynamics, drag and friction will be tested in your designs. Note, cars are to be built at home and brought to the track
Scratch codingExplore the games and animations created by students in Years 3-6
DronesTest your flight skills with our pre-recorded drones
Catapult challenge

Catapults have been used since 400 BCE during the times of the Ancient Greeks.

  • Which ones shoot the bean bags further? 
  • Is there a way to influence how far they go?
Chain reaction machines

Using objects from around the room, can you make a chain reaction machine that includes at least three steps? Imagine marbles rolling down ramps, toppling dominoes, pendulums, levers and falling objects
