Here we are, almost at the end of week 5. I hope everyone is coping relatively well in the heat, Summer really has turned it on over the past few weeks that's for sure. This week is our foundation students first full week of school and whilst there are some tired little people, they're all doing an exceptional job. Speaking of foundation, I'd like to say to Sharny a big thanks for supporting local communities over the past few days/nights helping firefighters from all over get on top of fires currently burning in Beaufort and surrounds. It's a huge effort to do that then get back to school for our students soon after.
On Monday next week some 4-6 students have the opportunity to visit BUPA Aged Care in Woodend to participate in some 'Intergenerational Activities' together. We see this not only as a HUGE educational opportunity for our students, but also a great partnership to build for our school. We're so excited to hear some stories when they return.
Next week you will see we have a Professional Practice day on Friday 8th March. In line with our AIP (Annual Implentation Plan), this day will be focused on our Literacy Instructional Model and continuing our deep dive to improve our students writing skills. Please note this is a student free day.
We have Cross Country up and coming on Monday 18th March. We had difficulty booking Hanging Rock for the previously suggested date (first newsletter I believe) so it is now to be held on the Monday in week 8. If you're able to come along please do so, we can always use helping hands around the track to ensure students stay on the right path. Year 6s have also been asked to think about some novelty events that could be included on the day as well, parents I am sorry to say but plenty of these involve your participation!
Speaking of Cross Country, we celebrated a few students at assembly for their commitment to training for this day. Eddie, Charlie and Lily have all been running to build up a solid fitness base! We look forward to seeing how they go.
If you can, please come along tomorrow afternoon from 2:45 to support the work students have been doing in Maths. Head to our classrooms to join in some games and activities to showcase the things we do.
Please keep donating where you can as we will begin piecing our prizes together in the next couple of weeks. This will be drawn on the last day of this term at our last assembly. Watch this space!
NAPLAN begins in week 7 for years 3 & 5. Under the new format from the department of Education, the testing period has been brought forward in the year and we have a 'testing window'. Week 7 is the main week for the testing to be done with the following week available for catch up testing for students who have been absent.
We are to test in order as follows:
Writing, Reading, Conventions of grammar then Numeracy.
NAPLAN is only one form of assessment that we use and all schools regularly use a number of forms of assessment for their students. If you have any questions about NAPLAN please see your child's teacher, we're happy to help.
