Visual Art with Mrs Q
This week the Level 4 students responded to First Nations works of art that were created by the Tjampi Desert Weavers, by learning a weaving technique with paper.
The Tjanpi Desert Weavers are an art collective involving over 400 Aboriginal women from twenty-six communities across the desert regions of South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Tjanpi is the Pitjantjara word for dry spinifex grass. The women use grasses and coloured fibres to weave figurative sculptures and containers. Now that the Level 4 students have mastered the technique, they are looking forward to more complex applications.
