Junior School update

Term 1 news

As we stride into the new academic year, the Junior School is buzzing with energy, and I am delighted to share some highlights.

A warm welcome to Year 7s

The halls of Box Hill High School were filled with the excitement of new beginnings as we formally welcomed our Year 7 students. Despite the mix of bright-eyed nerves, their positivity set the tone for an excellent start to the year. Throughout the first week, our Year 7s engaged in various orientation programs, including the Laptop Induction session, organisation workshops, positive relationships seminars, and thrilling team-building activities.

Family picnic

Week 3 was a special one as we hosted the Family Picnic, bringing together our school community. It was heartening to witness parents meeting teachers, and fostering connections that enrich the educational journey. A special shout-out goes to the entire Junior School Team, teachers, and the Student Representative Council (SRC) for their active involvement in making the evening memorable.

Coastal connection: Year 7 Camp at Mt Eliza

The Year 7s embarked on a three-day adventure at Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza, creating lasting memories and forming bonds that will define their school experience. Kudos to all participants for their proactive, genuine, and meaningful engagement. It was truly one of the best camps we've had at Box Hill High School. A huge thank you to Ms Wilkinson for her hard work and assisting with the organisation of the camp – she stayed the entire week. It was fantastic to see our Year 10 Peer Support students step up and make our students feel welcome.

Year 8s embrace new chapters

Our Year 8s have seamlessly transitioned into their new Home Groups and elective classes, displaying a commendable level of maturity and enthusiasm. Special mention to Ms. Kertes, Year 8 Coordinator, for her dedication. The Green Chronicles competition has been a close race, with Year 8 currently leading at 1036 to Year 7 at 1022 points. I am immensely proud of both year levels for consistently making positive choices within the classroom.

Ongoing initiatives and reminders

Home Group Sessions: This year, we introduced Home Group sessions, a dedicated 20-minute slot on Mondays to enhance student connections, facilitate communication, convey key announcements, and provide a go-to person (teacher) for support. In Term 2, Year 7s will focus on homework, study skills, and organisation, while Year 8s will delve into an introduction to careers and gratitude.

Uniform Policy: A gentle reminder about the importance of adhering to the school uniform policy. If your child is out of uniform, including being in PE attire on a non-PE day, kindly provide a note, and students can obtain a pass from the Junior School office.

Stay connected and reach out

If your child requires any support or if you have queries, please don't hesitate to reach out to the dedicated members of the Junior School team. Together, let's make this academic year one of growth, success, and lasting memories.
