Home Group update

Fostering a sense of belonging

Term 1 saw the introduction of Home Group, a new weekly program implemented at BHHS. The rationale for Home Group is to foster a sense of belonging, providing personalised support, improving communication, and nurturing school culture.

The program is structured around specific themes tailored to each year level, aiming to address various aspects of personal and academic development.

In Term 1, Home Group focused on different themes tailored to the needs and developmental stages of students across Years 7-12.

Year 7 (getting to know each other and the school):

Each week students focused on getting to know each other and the school, whilst also building positive routines.

Year 8 (gratitude):

Students focused on unpacking successes from Year 7 and recognising gratitude in one's life.

Year 9 (myself):

Students focused on identifying their own strengths and areas for growth. They developed a knowledge of goal setting and set about creating a plan on what they would like to achieve in 2024.

Year 10 (belonging):

Students explored developing a sense of belonging and improving inclusion.

Year 11 (confidently identifying strengths):

Students identified and used their character strengths to explore how they can utilise them to thrive in VCE.

Year 12 (goal setting):

Students continued the work they did on Retreat by establishing and building upon good study routines and habits that will help them achieve their goals for the year.

To ensure the continued growth and success of Home Group, student and staff voice has been utilised to identify areas of strength and areas for further opportunity in the program.
